The palestnians lack the capacity to make peace. They are not unified, but fractured. There are nearly a dozen separate militias, each with their own ideology, agenda and leadership. Some of this ideology is completely incompatible with peace: the destruction of Israel. Israel may be able to make peace with one of the major groups, but any number of the smaller one's will still wage war....or when they come to power, ignore previous peace accords.

That depends. Zionism (that was the founding idealogy of Israel) probably evolved into something more grotesque than Hertzl could have imagined. If you bothered (& obviously you don't) to read what he wrote in his book 'The Jewish State' where he referred to Palestine four times but to 'Israel' (as in historic Israel & Judea) once, & there was no Eretz Ysrael (greater Israel) or talk of displacing anyone. That came with the first Jewish militias such as the Lehi in 1921 following the end of the Ottoman Empire. The reality was, the Jews (note: not Israelis) came in their Alyas to find a land that had a people but propaganda continues to this day. Eretz Ysrael was the calling of most Zionists of the early days & certainly all the militias & let us not forget terrorism on THEIR SIDE began even before the establishment of Israel 1948 i.e. King David Hotel Bombing, but it's rich that people should forget history when it has a lot to teach us. Israel was a state founded on terrorism.

The 'Israelis' (as they became known from 1949 onwards) are ultimately driven by a fuedalistic notion that they are 'god's people' or 'the chosen people' & a religion+race at the same time. Not all Jews (i.e. Albert Einstein) share that notion or interpret it the same way. Nor did the 30 Afluent Jewish scholars (in the US) who signed the petition agree to the creation of the Jewish state. It was also opposed by a majority of religious Jews at one point in time, & even 'Modern Standard Hebrew' is a cocktail of ancient Hebrew, Levantic Arabic, German, English & other languages. That's how artificial their idnetity really is.

Oh yes, let's talk about the present.

Israel pulled out of Gaza, & HAMAS eventually gained control. The seige began & so HAMAS fired rockets to end the seige. Israel responds with brutal force & HAMAS hits back. Naturally one may argue that because HAMAS took over (from FATEH) & maintained control of Gaza that that was reason enough to block Gaza, but that's not what the media would have you believe because it all started when '..... HAMAS fired rockets prompting Israel to close the border with Gaza' & eventually when a ceasefire is agreed upon HAMAS gets part of its demands (lifting the seige) & Israel ends up claiming that it paid too high a price even though all it does is open it for aid to trickle in.

A good question would be, 'Would HAMAS have struck (with rockets) had Israel not imposed a seige?' (this is the part that wasn't reported) the answer is, not likely because from their point of view the seige was the catalyst for their attack.

It does of course not make sense to someone who reads selective news references & gets part of the story. If you're under seige you fight back.


Oh, & on Egypt & Jordan signing peace treaties with Israel. Remember, Egypt's Sadat did it for broader political reasons & benefits. Keep in mind, the motive isn't peace for peace's own sake & normalisation is hardly occuring. Yes, I see Israeli tourists here & there in Jordan & a lot more in Egypt, but the fact of the matter is in signing Camp David 1979 Sadat got the US to finance Egypt's military & as you know if the US fails to supply Egypt then the treaty becomes null & void. Jordan's reasons were obvious enough, (Jordan was denied further US aid for refusing to follow Egypt in 1979) & the issue of agreement was not one supported by a majority of Egyptians. It couldn't have happened without the approval of the military establishment in Egypt.
