Would be to start logging again so that forests could be managed and provide the revenue that would reduce forest fires, as well as provide funding to support areas devestated by the 80-90% decline in logging to protect a bird that few have ever seen, just to watch them be destroyed by fire and predators.

I've heard similar claims....that one of the major problems we've created is to cease harvesting trees....AND to stop forest fires. This to create a 'pristine' wilderness. Problem is...in a REAL pristine wilderness, fires are regular occurances.
In our version, we make sure that kindling is stacked high at the base of the big trees by the metric ton in the form of underbrush. Where as a fire should burn away a small amount of underbrush and leave the trees largely untouched, our policies have created super hot fires that turn a forest into a lunar landscape. |

If you don't allow trees to fall and rot, you kill the entire forest ecosystem. I don't think many birds are killed by fires. I like the photoit is both pretty and dramatic.
