Somewhere I read that he was somewhat of a bigot, against Jews, Catholics,and the Irish. I tried locating the place where I read that but now that I need it it's disappeared (of course). Recently I read the two-volume biography of TR by Edmund Morris. It was very well written but too much of an excercise in hero-worship imho. I have yet to read a balanced bio of TR. He seemed to be just right for his times. If he had lived today he wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as he did, also imho.

Helped to start the National Parks but loved to kill animals. Oh well... IR

He had a bull-in-the-china-shop syndrome which I don't think would get him very far in politics today. imho.

I guess Teddy was as paranoid as the present-day English Only crowd of geocentric, unsophisticated, unworldy and phobic myopes." And TR helped to make that happen. He had no problem with immigration. What he had a problem with is immigrants bringing their baggage with them, as most Americans have a problem with today, while avoiding assimilation into our society. If they liked their countries so much, maybe someone who is in favor of opening the borders to anyone and everyone who couldn't care less about America and came just to get a job at the expense of Americans would like to explain why they left it and why we should let them in.

He loved hunt. Hunting is natural for mankind and always has been. You eat meat from a butcher - you killed animals. Accessory after the fact.
