I would like to see reunification of the two Koreas.
I have spent much time in South Korea, and some time in Panmunjum. The North Koreans in Panmunjum looked quite emaciated to me. I think that they are desparate. Many families have been split for decades now. The sight of the South Koreans looking longingly over at North Korea from the museum at Panmunjum is very touching. On a different note, I am not sure if the North Koreans get along very well with their communist neighbors to the west. I was in a place called Yangzhou, China. It is right at the North Korean border. I was a guest of the local power company, and, like all business guests, I was staying in the "guest house" built near the jobsite for visiting businesspeople. On the grounds where the guest house was located, one could walk to the edge of the property to the river and view the bridge to North Korea. On one side of the bridge was a guy with a yellow star on his hat and an automatic rifle. On the other side - the same thing. The first thing that I thought, of course, was, "Hmmm. If they start shooting at each other, then who protects me?!!!". The first time that Americans were invited to stay in the Guest House, they were warned by the Chinese not to go view the bridge. They were afraid the the North Koreans would start shooting at us! Jeff |

Quote: My sister spent many years in South Korea, mainly doing intelligence work and surveillance. What little she could tell me was mainly about the famine during the 90's. Some estimates had about 10% of the population dying from starvation. She was even hearing reports of canibalism. But how can anybody truely know, they are so isolated. |

I was in Panmunjum at various times throughout the 90's.
It would seem to me that that would be the location that the North Koreans would want to put their best foot forward as far as presentation to the outside world. I also got special permission in April of 2000 to enter North Korea under guard to take a "special tour", all within a few kilometers of the boarder. If what the people looked like was indicative of the rest of North Korea, then there was considerable calorie restriction, for sure. I would love to see reunification. If |

Spoken:
The world today seems absolutely crackers. With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high. There are fools and idiots sitting on the trigger. It's depressing, and it's senseless, and that's why... Intro: I like Chinese, Sings....... I like Chinese,They only come up to your knees, Yet they're always friendly and they're ready to please. Verse: I like Chinese. I like Chinese, There's nine hundred million of them in the world today, You'd better learn to like them, that's what I say. Chorus: I like Chinese. I like Chinese, They come from a long way overseas, But they're cute and they're cuddly, and they're ready to please. Verse: I like chinese food, The waiters never are rude, Think of the many things they've done to impress, There's Maoism, Taoism, I Ching and Chess. Chorus: So I like Chinese. I like Chinese, I like their tiny little trees, Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin and yang-ese. Verse: I like Chinese thought, The wisdom that Confucious taught, If Darwin is anything to shout about, The Chinese will survive us all without any doubt. Chorus: So I like Chinese. I like Chinese, They only come up to your knees, Yet they're wise and they're witty, and they're ready to please. Verse: Chorus: I like Chinese, I like Chinese, Their food is guaranteed to please, A fourteen, a seven, a nine and lychees. Chorus: I like Chinese. I like Chinese, I like their tiny little trees, Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin and yang-ese. Fade: I like Chinese, fade I like Chinese... |

@vdiamond;
"That should be our greatest fear." North Korea in all likelihood scraped up as much fissile material as it could to make a crude low yield device. In all likelihood, were we to all out invade, we would find no stockpile of active nucular weapons, North Korea will after the fact be deemed not to have been a threat, and Michael Moore makes another movie. Deja vu. |

And, deja vu, invasion would be a stupid way to deal with this threat whether they have nuclear capabilities or not. If they got 'em, an invasion would provoke them to use them and potentially other WMDs, or give them to someone who will. If they don't have them, we come off looking like pariahs (not to mention @#%$) and it makes our warnings of future global threats look that much less credible.
