Hi Folks,
Any recommendations on good cell phone companies? I think that it's about time to change. Which company do you like and why? Who has the best coverage that you know of? Who has good international coverage? Danke! IR |

I highly recommend any non-contract plan from Cingular or T-Mobile. Contracts are starting to add hidden constraints that can limit your ability to purchase a new phone, change phone numbers if you change states (depending on the carrier) and severely inhibit your choice of options and data connections.
If you have access to it, international plans from Canadian or European countries have interesting choices in terms of their contract stipulations and are much better than American plans. Also, it gives you the option of purchasing unlocked phones (also called gray market phones) that can be used instead of the typical given phone. |

Thanks for the tips. I'll have to see what the non-contract rates are compared to regular. Otherwise are there any downsides? How does one get an international plan if in the US? IR |

IR, One is just as bad as the next. Inspite of what they say, none are improving their service. T-Mobile doesn't support the phone they sold you last year. They'll tell you that if you buy a new phone from them the service will be better, it won't. They've doubled their text messaging rates. The phones they offer has silly features like cameras but the sound fidelity sucks. IMO, it is just another dishonest industry.

Who all offers international plans? It used to be just Powertel/TMobile. AT&T had a kludgy one where you had to take two phones and flip a bunch of dip switches in each country. IR |
