While I'm against (and think it's absolutely outrageous) for food stamps to pay for fast food - I am even more outraged that gas would be shut off during very cold months of the year - costing lives. There is absolutely no good reason for this to happen in this country.

One gentleman interviewed stated that he had been in line since 5am - only to be told that he would still have to come up with half his bill in order to receive $100 of assistance. The gas bill the family linked to above had was over $1900. Despite what the gas company said in order to defend themselves...the stories of the people tell a different story. Is it this bad everywhere? Have the local news stations in your areas been doing stories on this?

No. I said they had a fire because they were stupid/lazy. I even listed reasons for it, ie reading warning labels, moving heater away from the couch, finding another way to get gas turned on in their home.

There is oldfashioned wood, coal, oil, gas and electricity. Depending on where one lives gas is not available or is delivered in canisters. So gas company doesn't know if gas is your sole way of heating a house. They know that you didn't pay your gas bill and they will discontinue the service. So, gas company did nothing wrong.

But that's not what happened. They did not pay their bill. They recieved multiple notices and probably phonecalls as well. Their gas got turned off, not their power. They were still able to keep themselves warm. They bought a space heater and placed it too close to the couch... It is not gas company's falt that these people placed a space heater too close to their couch. And that is what caused the fire, not gas company.

In some places in Canada, like in Alberta, gas is the main or only one heat source. In other places like Qubec, gas is very rare and electricity is the only option. Since our hydro-electricity is very cheap, it's not that bad but, still are winter are very cold. So it is forbidden to cut electricity in winter even if the person haven't paid the last 3 month. Once april 1st arrive, the company is allowed to cut the power. To get back the power, the client must pay the past bills. Bankrupcy is waiting that person if it cannot pay the bills in time prior to the next winter. Regarding that specific case of fire caused by the heater. 1. No, it is not directly the gas campany's fault if that accident happen. 2. Yes, it is company's fault if the family had to look for an auxilary heating. We are not living in a savage 1800's far west, it's 2000's modern time. If that gas company would have applied the rule I mentionned upper, that event would have never happened. The gas company could have cut the service when the heating is not as needy and the service would never been reestablish after until a solution is found. That is a civilized procedure worth of a civilized world. If the main heating power is gas rather than electricity, it means that gas is cheaper than electricity to heat the home. Cutting it off in the middle of winter isn't an helping solution for the family's finance anyway. Benz Vive la diffrence!

People have been exploiting resources since the beginning of history and beyond. I never claimed there was or wasn't liability to the people, but the people as a whole have never owned those sources. Gubmnts can and do make rules regarding the exploitaion, but rules are always subject to change and the people rarely, if ever, have any direct say in the matter. As for respect for myself, that doesn't matter to anyone except me. For others, they have to earn it. Now let's get back to another batch of freshly stomped whine made by lotd. Cheese anyone?

Of course they didn't because the people as a whole don't have any rights to the minerals found unless there is a law in place that says they do. How many in California and Texas have a piece of the oil action being pumped on a daily basis? Only those who own the rights do.

Through the very programs we embrace. Welfare, foodstamps, SSI, healthcare, HMO's, our manipulated , privately owned monetary system, controlled, gov. owned media, government regulated EVERYTHING. Unfortunatly, we already look to the government for too much. Since both DEM's and REP's are pre-vetted for us and then handed to us for a vote, by the same CFR vetted groups (see your favorite candidates memberships), all CFR, it doesn't really matter who you pick. Your platforms are not theirs. Fact is, terrorism and it's hype is the only method of controlling the masses of American citizens. No matter what their opinion or spin, as long as you think terrorism is a fact, then they have you. Without this false reality, they have no platform to rob, pillage, dis-assemble and destroy this once republic. The right left just keeps us in our illusion that they created for you. A "war on terror", hmmmm since never in history have we had a world without "bad guys aka terrorists" guess this one will continue until humans are extinct. Who are these uniformless, country less, headscarved people who want to take away "FREEDOMS". Let's just inventory what and whom has removed our freedoms since 9/11. The U.S. Patriot Act 1 & 2, Military Commisions Act, 800 + "necessary amendments to our constitution using the "executive signing order privlege". No more bill of rights, no more privacy, no more voice,,, terror list containing mainly us citizens, a free for all alien bonanza on our treasury and tax base..No real news, No news , News????? whats that. on infinitem. So........... What exactly are we pretending to have? Who exactly has done anything for the people lately? Has anyone ever thought that this border fence just might be erected to keep us in?
