That is definitely a good one Vdiamond. By the end of the evening, I bet Jackson, Carter, and bin Laden would be singing drinking songs together, arm in arm.
How about bin Laden and the South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone? Tom Cruise, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone? Jesus, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone? Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and their Indian companion? |

I thought of some more abominations....oops....combinations of dinner guests that I would find interesting for reasons that seem obvious to me.
Tipper Gore, Teresa Heinz, and Laura Bush. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Kurt Cobain (Can Janis Joplin be the waitress or substitute for one of the three?). Jerry Jones and Al Davis, respective owners of the Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders, and Paul Tagliabue, commissioner of the NFL. Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and O (prah Winfrey). Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Johnny Carson. Pat Robertson, the Tele-Tubbies (counted as one guest), and Ellen Degeneres. Any combination of three hard core, brawling World Cup hooligans from three different European countries. Grant, Lincoln, and Lee. Lenin, Stalin, and Kruschev. Bill Clinton, Bob Dole, and Rush Limbaugh. It would be interesting to me to see how many jabs Clinton could work into the conversation about the "little blue pill". Barbara Walters, Star Jones, and Rosie O'Donnell. More to come. |

Hey Vorlon2, I kindly ask you to clarify something for me. Your posts always include the following:
"The enemy is fear. The enemy is ignorance. The enemy is the one who tells you that you must hate that which is different. Because, in the end, that hate will turn on you. And that same hate will destroy you." I have several questions concerning this. Are fear and ignorance the same thing? If fear is my enemy, should I attack fear or defend myself against it? If ignorance is my enemy, should I attack ignorance or defend myself against it? If I fear that which is a known threat, does that mean I'm ignorant? If I'm ignorant, does that mean I shouldn't fear my enemies? Your "enemy is fear" and "enemy is ignorance" BS is exactly that....BS. |

Are fear and ignorance the same thing?
No but ignorance, prejudice and fear walk hand in hand. They are of the same kind. If fear is my enemy, should I attack fear or defend myself against it? You should face your fear. You should allow it to pass through you. When it is gone, only you will remain. If ignorance is my enemy, should I attack ignorance or defend myself against it? Both. You attack by educating yourself and you defend by not being swayed by the peddlers of prejudice and fear. If I fear that which is a known threat, does that mean I'm ignorant? yes. Fear is a primal emotion from a time when you lacked higher brain functions. The adrenalin rush caused by fear is overrated. You will always perform better by not succumbing to the fight or flight response induced by fear and remaining in control of your higher functions. If I'm ignorant, does that mean I shouldn't fear my enemies? This sentence is not coherent. |

Re: good response | ||

I thought that I wasnt clear on my questions concerning fear and ignorance and it is clear that my thinking was correct. I based my previous questions concerning fear and ignorance on a false premise presented by Vorlon2, who was quoting someone else.
Fear has never been my enemy and that is why I dont understand the statement, The enemy is fear. Fear is a natural response, whether physical, mental, or emotional, to actual threats or perceived threats, whether they are physical, mental, or emotional, or a combination of the three. Courage is required to overcome fear, no matter the source of fear or its nature. Courage isnt a natural response to fear and must be learned. I suggest that anyone who thinks in terms of having fear as an enemy, instead, learn to have courage as a friend. The fight or flight response, as mentioned by Liberalnut, requires neither fear nor courage, and it is primal, or natural. The fight or flight response only requires a desperate reaction. Courage requires thought and conviction and the willingness to act on thought and conviction. Fear is to be embraced with courage, not as an enemy that must be destroyed, but as something that is to be overcome in order to create an environment in which courage can become natural. Fear does not actively seek to destroy us; however, a true enemy does/true enemies do, actively seek to destroy us. Therefore, in my opinion, fear is only an enemy of those who will not embrace courage. I thank you for aiding me in clarifying my thinking Liberalnut. Ignorance is a whole other animal, so to speak, when compared to fear. I dont see ignorance as an enemy, just maybe a few of the ignorant. I suggest a different discussion on ignorance. Consider the following statement: The only thing I know is that I dont know anything. I call it the paradox of true ignorance. Give me some feedback. |

My choices are Bill Kristol, Jon Stewart, and George Clooney.
From people who are no longer alive, my choices are Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, and John F. Kennedy. My choices were based on who I think could provide the most interesting conversation. I wrote my lists before I read anyone else's list. I notice that the only person I included who other people included, up to now, was Winston Churchill. One excellent choice that I noticed on someone else's list was Johnny Carson. |
