Hi Folks,
I read, just briefly, this morning that the Yorktown sank the destroyer that had been lashed to it, trying to tow it to safety. Anyone have any idea why they couldn't cut the line? IR |

I was under the understanding that a torpedo cut through the destroyer, sinking what, the Hammond I think, and finishing off the yorktown.

My understanding is that Yorktown was attacked twice in the Battle of Midway. The first attack did major damage, but the crew managed to get her moving under
her own power. The second attack completely disabled her and she had to be towed into port. Then once in port a Japanese midget sub snuck in an sank her with
torpedoes.
