Who sank the hood? |

Was it the assumed big and bad Bismark, or the cruiser Prince eugen with a high trajectory 8" shell into the open magazine?

I had always assumed it was the Bismarck. It almost had to be to rationalize the loss of the Bismarck a few days later. Why has the Prinz Eugen been entering
into the debate lately? It would be interesting if it was Prinz Eugen.

Imperior Rex. I actually got kicked out of history class back in 1968 for my position. It was a long story, but the only teacher I had trouble with in high
school was this history teacher. After a heated argument in the asst principles office, they moved me to advanced history class, and I pulled an A+ on the
report that the teacher gave me an E on. The advanced history teacher was named Mr Walker. After I graduated from school, him and I had lunch together about
once a month for years, and yes, discussed history, usually around WW2.
So this is not a new idea. According to reports, when the hood blew up, the bismark had no shells in the air. The prince did. A high trajectory 8" shell in an open magazine would be lucky, but not impossible. The hood lacked any real armor, that is why she was called a battle cruiser. They hope to find the hood and look at what happened, but they have had no luck so far. Allan |

What kind of grade is "E"?

That is a fair question. We had "E"s instead of "F". I never did understand the "F" think. After a "D", there is an
"E". My school never used "F"s

"F" stands for "Failed". That's why they didn't use "E" anyplace.
Well, according to you, almost anyplace! Jeff Perstare et perstare. Per aspera ad astra. |

Here all this time, I thought "F" stood for the fact that the liberal bias schools did not know the alphabet enough to know that "E" comes
after "D".
So what is the significant of A B C D? D stand fro dumb? C for crummy? B for better? and we all know what "A" stand for he he he. Do why jump a letter and give some meaning to letter when the rest of them have no meaning. I grew up in Michigan. There was no "F" in the grading scale, because none of the other letters meant anything and E was chronologically the next letter. You often wonder how many things come into being. This is one of them. Allan |

Allan,
E makes a lot more sense to me than F. The Hood was found, BTW. I have not followed any of this in years. Were they able to determine what happened to her? They should be able to understand what should happen between a high
trajectory 8" shell and a flatter trajectory 16" shell. However, depends on the wreck's condition, lay factor and other factors.

The Hood had quite heavy armor over the magazine, which the Eugen's puny shells couldn't have touched.

Sorry, thats just not true with an open magazine when you are loading shells. And the hood just did not have that much protection. The battle cruisers have
always taken a beating. They are just a cheap imitation of the battleship IE their losses at jutland.
By the way, nice research, I have read it before. This does NOT eliminate the prince from being the killer. And with this data, many military historians and researchers still say the prince could have fired the fatal shot into the 4" magazines. Even a detailed evaluation of the hood may never answer the question with 100% certainty. allan

The Hood & the Bismarck was on PBS again last night. They tagged along with the guy finding the remains in the Denmark Strait. Turned out the
conning tower was a mile away from the rest of the wreck, so they figured that the explosion took place in the forward magazine too.
Kinda corny - they flew in the last (of 3) survivors of the Hood. The last hour was about the sinking of the Bismarck. |
