Rising ocean levels will almost certainly prove to be one of the greatest threats posed by climate change.

My diagnosis is that we must implement green energy on a wide scale quickly and immediately invest trillions of dollars in desalinating massive quantities of ocean water and pumping it into North Africa to turn the Sahara Desert green.

Turning the deserts green will have numerous benefits:

1. The new vegetation will create a huge carbon sink.

2. The Sahara acts much like a furnace in that it absorbs the heat of the sun all day but then cools rapidly at night. All that heat goes into the atmosphere. If we cover the desert with plants the heat is not so easily dissipated. Greenhouse gases act like insulation but the world's deserts act like the furnace. Turning the deserts green could be compared with turning down the furnace.

3. If we turn the deserts green we would be producing food and/or biofuels. One billion people are hungry so all we have to do is figure out a way to turn them into a market for all that extra food.

4. Every cubic meter of water that has been added to the water table of North Africa or Saudi Arabia or the Sinai Desert, WILL NOT BE ON TOP OF FLORIDA, OR NEW ORLEANS, or Antigonish, or Holland, or.....
