If so, which is the most successful? I don't count GWI or GWII because it seems like the land engagement was pretty much rubber stamping a decision forced by the air campaign (which is the way it should be). Maybe I'm wrong. If you disagree with my logic here, go along with me for the sake of this discussion and pick your next most successful infantry engagement/land engagement. The Yom Kippur war barely qualifies on time, but had the usual smooth Israeli execution. The NVA victory in 1974 is within the time frame, on the ground, and a pretty good second candidate. I think the bees suspect something.

Posts: 1517 (06/13/03 22:56:32) Moderator of War Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	you know something Narayan, the only problem with this question is that there really aren't any notable pure infatry engagments at all, they ussually have sometype of none groud pounder support, from tanks backing them up to APC and even helo and Air support, but anyhow, I'd like to nominate Somolia, the Delta Force Fiasco... pretty much the only completely infantry action in modern history...

But even successful land-engagements... have there been any that weren't heavily influenced by air or sea forces? Posts: 1517 (06/15/03 22:43:41) Moderator of War Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	not exactly 21, in nam whenever the US infantry came under fire the first thing to come in the other side was either some large caliber shells, or some F-4 with some naplam to dump... if it ever came down to a shooting match the USwould win, but that is mainly due to the fact there wasn't anything to shoot at after the first three seconds... lance could we have some more information on that one...

I'm not sure thats an infantry battle, you had grunts on one side and demostrators on the other side... Downpuppy The Mobile Infantry!! yep, toughest bunch of apes ever... though i've got to put in, thats supposed to be pluto or mars right? well if i recall correctly most people isn't going to surviv for longer than a few milliseconds without a full power suit out in those environs...

In the book, they were travelling near lightspeed & time dilation got workid into the plot, like in the Forever War. The movie didn't get into that - & dam.n was it funny.
