Not just Goose Green but the 1982 Falklands Campaign in general. The Argentines had mostly conscript infantry in place. The British forces were mostly elite infantry (RM, Paras, Gurkhas). Just a handful (something like 10 or 20) of very light armored vehicles (Scimitars?). There wasn't much in the way of roads and the ground was boggy, and they'd lost most of the heavy lift helos they were counting on when the Atlantic Conveyor was sunk - so they "yomped" (foot marched) for the most part. IIRC arty was limited to a small number of 105mm Light Guns, and air support was a handful of Harriers - that were mostly very busy with air defense mission. The initial landing, Goose Green, and the final assault on the capital were all infantry intensive actions.

Obviuosly, i'll said the french infantry in noth africa (algeria and tunisia)but not, of course, the unit that organized the repression but the unit that
really fought the ALN. These guys really did good job (again i only talks about the real fighting) :
-In 1956, the 2nd REP killed 900 rebel fighters and captured 500 while they only lost 75 killed. -During the bizerte crisis in 1961, the french regiment that reconquered the base killed 1000 tunisian soldiers while losing only 16 killed. |

Welcome!
1961 is almost as old as I am - any descriptive links for what I missed while playing in the sandbox? |
